27 Boxes, the shopping centre constructed out of refurbished shipping containers, has begun life afresh. A novelty in Melville, one of Johannesburg’s quirkiest suburb, it first opened its doors a few years back but didn’t meet its potential.
A plan for its reinvention was hatched by an experienced management team brought in to do the job and in November 2017 – with Phase One completed – the new-look centre was launched. Changes include a softer colour scheme, an eco-friendly park, more natural light and indigenous trees framing the facade.
But perhaps one of its most inspired outcomes, thus far, is its concentration of supervised children’s activities and play options.
Suzanne Brenner, former magazine editor and television producer, who runs an outsourced writing company and lives a stone’s throw away from 27 Boxes, conceived a hard copy and digital marketing campaign to attract locals to 27 Boxes. Look out for her free publication, which promotes the venue and contains gift ideas of what is on offer at 27 Boxes. Now available.
